The Journal Times Contest FAQ with Contest Rules and Regulations
How do I submit a photo to the photo contest?
Submit entries until 11:59 on October 3rd to enter the contest, visit ww.journaltimes.com/photocontest between now and 10/03; complete an entry form with the required information, including your name, telephone number, e-mail address, and photo caption, and submit along with your photograph in accordance with the instructions below.
What type of photos can I submit?
Racine County Favorite Places –
- Sunrises/sunsets, an approaching summer storm, lake shore views, farm country, wildlife, monuments, the zoo, historical buildings, or any other feature location in Racine County.
People and Pets –
- Friends and family having fun at festivals, parades, charitable events, birthday parties, sporting events, or any significant event. Your trusted dog or lazy cat or a tribute to pet that has passed on.
What should I include in the description of my photograph?
Captions are always a good way to engage others in your photography. So take the time to write about the place, time, setting, and situation.
Where will submitted photos be featured?
All entries will be available for viewing at www.journaltimes.com/photocontest and selected photos will be published in The Journal Times print edition, or in the 2017 Journal Times community calendar.
How many photos may I submit?
You may submit a total of three photos to the contest.
Do photos have to be taken with a digital camera?
Yes. You may download your digital photo at www.journaltimes.com/photocontest.
How does the photo contest work?
Photos featured in the 2017 Community Calendar will be selected by a team of judges appointed by The Journal Times.
When will the winner be announced?
Winners will be notified by phone and/or email by November 18, 2016.
I’d like to enter a photo that has previously been published or has won in a prior contest. Is that allowed?
Yes, you may enter a photo that has previously been published or entered in prior contests.
Is image manipulation allowed in the photo contest?
Minor burning, dodging, and color correction are acceptable. Hand tinting is acceptable, as is cropping. Fish-eye lenses are acceptable. High dynamic range images (HDRI) and stitched panoramas are acceptable only if the combined parts are all made around the same time. Any changes to an original photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the photograph ineligible to win.
When I submit a photo to the photo contest, what rights does The Journal Times have to my submission?
The Journal Times will have the right to display your photo at a potential exhibition of winners; publication of the 2017 Journal Times Community Calendar; and special publication highlighting entries or winners of the contest.
I accidentally uploaded the wrong photo. Can I delete my entry and submit a new entry?
Unfortunately, due to the large volume of images submitted to the contest, all entries are final and cannot be replaced or modified.
Why won't my images upload?
Make sure your images is of good quality and meeting the following requirements: * JPG or JPEG file format (ex. YourImage.jpg or YourImage.jpeg) * Total file size must be under 5 MB.
I didn't receive my confirmation email when submitting online. Why?
Some ISPs (Internet service providers) commonly install email filters that block or filter emails sent from unknown addresses. If you have a "junk mail" box, check to see if that's where the email landed. If you've installed software to monitor your email, make sure your settings aren't causing your emails to get blocked.
The Journal Times reserves all rights to use its discretion to determine if an a submission will be accepted into the contest. Any entry that does not have consent(s) of the identifiable person/people in the photograph and/oris not keeping with the spirit of the contest will not be included.
